New Zealand Police Recovers Necklace from Suspect's Stomach

New Zealand police, who spent six days monitoring every bowel movement of a man accused of swallowing a James Bond-inspired necklace from a jewelry store, said on Friday they had recovered the alleged necklace. A police spokesperson said the necklace, valued at NZ$33,000 ($19,000), was recovered from the man's digestive system on Thursday evening through natural means, with no need for medical intervention. The 32-year-old man, who has not been named, has been in police custody since he claimed he swallowed the octopus-shaped, jewel-encrusted necklace from the Bartridge jewelry store in Auckland on November 28. He was arrested inside the store just minutes after the alleged theft. The stolen item was a limited-edition Fabergé egg-inspired necklace from the 1983 James Bond film "Octopussy." A key part of the film's plot revolves around a jewelry smuggling operation involving a fake Fabergé egg. An image released by New Zealand police on Friday showed a gloved hand holding the recovered necklace, which was still attached to a long gold chain with an intact price tag. The spokesperson said the necklace and the man will remain in police custody. The man is due to appear in the Auckland District Court on December 8. He first appeared in court on November 29. Since then, officers have been stationed around the clock with the man to await the evidence.
