The Autonomus Union of Triathlon OAA announced yesterday the achievement of success by Emirati sportswoman Aisha Al Mehairi, who completed the full distance of the Ironman competition in the town of Taupo, New Zealand, covering a distance of 226.2 km - one of the most challenging and difficult endurance competitions in the world.
The union stated that this unprecedented sporting success by Emirati sportswoman was achieved after a long training period to attain full readiness, making her the first representative of OAA to achieve this.
Al Mehairi managed to swim the distance of 3.8 km in the cold waters of Lake Taupo, then cycle 180.2 km on rough roads, and finish the race with a full marathon of 42.2 km, achieving this success in 16 hours and 39 minutes, with an average speed of 9:21 minutes per kilometer.
